Artist Ryu Hyun-wook shows a gradual and diverse pictorial language in which the breathing of life "living" leads to "drawing." The metaphorical code of paint's real qualities, images in the mind, abstracts the mind's problems with stories and personal narratives that reflect life while spraying and scratching, and this transformation can be understood as a work of emptying oneself and replacing sadness.
The writer's personal life experiences and events are the drivers that changed into each series. This is accompanied by a change in attitude toward life and a change in aesthetics. Along with the current "slit" series, the four series are self-referencedly interlocked and simultaneously represented in the present form, each of which is as follows.
1. Days (2001–2009): a faceless human image that expresses a sense of absence and death, namely, ansich and Eros. This is a drawing of what is seen and what is beyond what is seen, as 'remember/testify'. 2. Layers' (2010-2014): Experimented on the story structure by overlapping image expressions by airbrush drawing and brush painting, and reveals the structure of a hard-boiled world in paintings by overlapping storytelling about daily life and life.
3. "The Forest of Mourning" (2015-2022): Abstracts mourning and karma under the theme of "forest" sprinkled by cremation of the deceased sister. Abstracts narratives and minds with ritual characters that comfort individual memories and souls. The combination of uneven shapes and lines as a metaphor for the narrative appears, and a storytelling technique that transforms from one figure or stroke into surrounding actions is shown.
4. "slit" (2023–present): The main visual element of the picture is "slit," which means a long cut or line-line, and converts metaphors for "wave and particulate" of quantum mechanics and "color and ball" of semi-field heart into a multilayer structure.
