David Gerstein (b. 1944), represented by Gana Art, attracts us with his enchanted and simple, straightforward images of everyday life such as still-life composition, urban landscape and activities of people. He constantly deals with intimate, dream-like and childhood themes, interweaving between the mundane and imaginary. In particular, he vivaciously depicts images that remind of the complexity of urban life through his own dynamic rhythm and a riot of color. His art is completed with his unique process of creating. He creates each piece of his work by rendering on computer based on his pencil and charcoal drawings, and laser-cuts. He then paints on those cut-pieces, and lays them in piles. His work is a pictorial sculpture in which both two-dimensional and three-dimensional features coexist. The artist overcomes the conventional way of art, and enables himself to freely work without any boundary between painting and sculpture. In this way, Gerstein transforms scenes of daily life into magical moments, and invites us to his world full of imagination and wittiness.
