Exhibition Information
Lee Yu-jin Gallery will hold an exhibition titled "Absolutely Abstract" from December 17, 2020 to January 9, 2021, involving 22 craft writers. The exhibition, which is the third of its kind this year under the sponsorship of the Blue Cultural Foundation, which contributes to the development of craft culture in Korea, aims to be a place to share the infinite and diverse aesthetic trends of crafts today under the theme of " If pure abstractionism is a trend of modern art that deviates from classicalism that pursues nature's imitation, abstract expression is the most basic expression that has lasted since ancient times to this day. As in paintings and sculptures, nature's form was simplified, conceptually transformed and abstracted. In this exhibition, it is a pure sculpture art of cube explored with various materials and technical possibilities, and it captures the meaning of "abstract" released by modern crafts in the unique eyes of young craftsmen living in the same era. From traditional materials and techniques such as pottery and lacquer to work using new material properties such as acrylic, plastic, and silicon, they function as everyday objects that can be worn as ornaments or used as decorative items. Beyond the combination of functionality and sculpture beauty, which is considered to be the essence of craft, I hope it will be an opportunity to give a new perspective on the value of craft as a special field of modern sculpture art.
