Exhibition Information

"Choryanghwagwan Map" depicts the Choryang Waegwan and its surroundings located in Busanpo during the Joseon Dynasty. The original copy of Tsushima's head house was reproduced in 1919. In the form of a scroll of about 7 meters, the bottom of the painting runs from Choryang Waegwan on the right to Choryang Guest Temple on the left, and the top is painted from Songdo coast to Dumopo, with Choryang Waegwan at the center. The Choryang Waegwan and surrounding scenery are depicted realistically, and the characters are depicted in detail. Compared to the collection of the National History Compilation Committee, the "Busan Pochoryanghwagwan Map" (Artist Unknown, 18th century), the upper part of the painting, the upper part of the right side of the painting, and the falconry are omitted.

At the end of the painting, "Choryanggwanjido" is a replica of the original copy of Tsushima's closing price on July 9, 1919, indicating that the owner was Takedakatsu. It is an interesting and important material to compare the appearance and terrain of the Waegwan, which lacked a sense of perspective due to its planar expression, but played an important role internationally at that time.
