Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) is remembered as one of the most important painters of his time because of his unique life and work. In planning the exhibition of the Bunker of Light, he devoted himself to expressing Van Gogh's original painting approach. We thought it was more important than anything else to convey to the audience the intensity of the oil painting's thickness and color. And he focused on the determination and flexible lines of brush touch, which are unique characteristics of Van Gogh’s work.
Art Director Gianfranco Iannuzzi
The exhibition presents a variety of violent works from the Potato Eaters (1885), Starry Night (1889), Sunflowers (1888) to Arles’ room (the Bedroom at Arles, 1889). With the bold use of color, Van Gogh’s expressive power and powerful brush touch, which adds originality to painting, can be vividly felt through the bunker walls and floors. In this immersive exhibition of the Bunker of Light, one can enhance Van Gogh’s understanding of the sentimental and chaotic poetic inner world, and appreciate the endless vortex of light and shadow. The thematic journey follows each stage of Van Gogh's life and his traces in Neunen, Arles, Paris, Saint Rémy de Provence, and Auvers-sur-Oise. Visitors can encounter the essence of Van Gogh’s works ranging from his early works to those completed in his heyday, and from landscape paintings and night views to self-portraits and stills.
