  • Tim Eitel (b.1971~) is a writer who presented a new interpretation of painting in the contemporary art world based on Leipzig, a city that belonged to East Germany before the reunification of Germany. Prior to unification, Leipzig art was an academy art that complied with the standard of traditional painting styles under socialist rule, and there was a clear difference from Western German art led by Joseph Beuys (1921-1986), including abstract art and conceptual art. What's noteworthy about Leipzig's art is that it has changed the perception of 'painting' in modern art. Indeed, despite being under socialist rule, writers at that time were pursuing free expression and this trend was also a cultural background that directly affected the collapse of socialism.

The Sin Leipzig School, composed of a new generation of artists who have emerged from the tradition of Leipzig art, refers to a group of young artists, including Tim Eitel and Neo Rauch. Eitel has not forgotten that what is important in the work is the perspective on art, and to express it, he is trying to deal with more complex, higher-level expressions, things inside human beings, based on traditional technological mastery, such as basic perspective or analytical composition. His way of working raises questions about the trend of modern art today, which is developing day by day around visual techniques using technology and media through the genre of "painting." He finds unusual things that exist in everyday life, but are not noticeable, and he organizes them as if time has stopped and moves them to the canvas. Visitors who see it come across the work through various interpretations, and we reach a point where everyone can relate. A variety of interpretations, but one common thing, which we refer to as a 'sympathetic zone'.

Through this exhibition, the Daegu Art Museum aims to provide an opportunity to study the social and environmental backgrounds of contemporary people that have been regarded as traditional Academy Art for some time and to rethink the meaning of painting in contemporary art and reflect on the invisible psychological problems of modern people that exist within human beings that the artist wants to express. In this exhibition, the artist will introduce the 20 years of work borrowed from the owners of all over the world, including the latest work by Tim Eitel. The artist will select and install 300 photos of daily life that where the motif of the artist Tim Eitel. The photos show certain spaces and unspecified human figures that can be found in his paintings and these motifs are melted into each of his painting like a picture-finding mission. These days, when the longing for everyday life is blighted by the untimely viral problems, we will be able to appreciate the life and death problems that can be mentioned in today's human life and human-themed works of art, the stories of the loss of humanity that are disappearing from reality, and Tim Eitel's 'a painting of contemplation' that can be thought and considered through art.
