Exhibition Information

			The National Museum of Contemporary Art will hold the 2021 New Media Collection Planning Exhibition: Unreasonable Situation Play, which introduces international new media works collected since 2010. The exhibition is a representative work of William Kentridge, born in South Africa, Nalini Malani from India, and Yangpudong from China. The works of the three artists have something in common that they reconstruct issues of social and political reality in an epic way, inspired by plays, operas, novels, and exams.

The exhibition's title "Unreasonable Situation Play" is an excerpt from the participating author William Kentridge's working notes. The "fantasy" device borrowed from the three authors in the work enhances awareness of reality by blurring the boundaries with reality, while also drawing contradictory truths. Through this, the irrationality or conflict felt by individuals facing rapid changes in society is expressed in a way that crosses reality and non-realism. Through this exhibition, we hope that it will be an opportunity for contemporary artists to see how they can implement the problems facing reality through their work, and to appreciate the representative collection of new media held by the National Museum of Contemporary Art.
