  • Doosan Gallery Seoul will host "Dusan Art Lab Exhibition 2021" from Jan. 13, 2021, to Feb. 20, 2021, as the first exhibition in 2021. "Dusan Art Lab" is a program that Doosan Art Center has been working on since 2010 to discover and support new artists in the art and performance fields. Doosan Art Lab in the field of art changed the time of the exhibition from biennial to annual exhibitions this year and selected five artists under the age of 35 through a public contest. The artists selected for the Doosan Art Lab Exhibition 2021 will showcase various works, including paintings, photos, and installations by Kim Se-eun, Park Jung-hye, Oh Yeon-jin, Oh Hee-won, and Lee Jun-ah.

The "Dusan Art Lab" contest was not about selecting writers with a specific media or theme, but rather an individual artist who judged that the working world was remarkable and worth continuing to look at. In this year's case, the five finalists were all women and had something in common that flat surfaces such as paintings, photographs, and prints were treated as their main medium.

Kim Se-eun discovers a small space in the city and reveals the senses acquired by recognizing it with her body in the language of painting. Park Jeong-hye observes the relationship between nature and human beings and suggests the current landscape reinterpreted by the halting screen called "canvas" and the quality of paint. Oh Yeon-jin captures the floating image and its physical properties through experiments with photography using negative film printing methods. Oh Hee-won projects non-visual natural phenomena such as invisible airflow and the spread of light on the canvas in a light and delicate way that resembles them. Lee Jun-ah embodies regularity and free pictorial expressions found in fractal images as overlapping and heavy spaces.

On the other hand, their works tend to pursue different directions but have some interlocking points, preferring to go beyond, transmitted or secondary in looking at a phenomenon.

Park Jung-hye and Oh Hee-won treat light as a natural phenomenon but present it in color, pattern, and semi-abstract form, and Oh Hee-won's eyes are different, paying attention to the lightness, transparency, and concrete form of the light-penetrated windows. Meanwhile, Oh Yeon-jin's window image was reflected in the photo paper as artificial lighting penetrated the canvas during the printing process. While Kim Se-eun focuses on expressing visual interpretations of space that exists and experiences in the formative language, Lee Jun-ah's virtual space was first drawn on the screen and then improvised in the process of moving it to the canvas.

The exhibition was organized to discover and infer the commonalities and individuality among these writers. Through the "Dusan Art Lab Exhibition 2021, we will be able to discover a variety of interesting attitudes of up-and-coming artists who share the same generation.
