Exhibition Information

The National Iksan Museum of Korea is holding a special exhibition <Molten Iron with Unkind Hearts, Iron Fire of Gangwon and Jeonbuk> in 2021.
Iron Buddha, a Buddha statue made by molten iron, was intensively produced in regions other than Gyeongju or Gaeseong, the capitals of the time, during a short period from the end of the 9th century Unified Silla to Goryeo. Among them, Gangwon-do and Jeollabuk-do are the places where many examples remain. For this exhibition, the special exhibition <Gangwon Cheolbul>, a special exhibition of the Chuncheon National Museum, which previously revealed the results of conservation scientific research on the Cheolbul in Wonju, Gangwon Province, was decorated with the iron Buddha in Namwon and Imsil, Jeollabuk-do. The story of the iron Buddha in Gangwon and Jeollabuk-do, which was made with a burning heart that can melt even hard iron at once, begins now.
