Exhibition Information
Gana Art is pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by Kim Kulim(b. 1936-), a first-generation Korean avant-garde artist and a pioneer of an experimental art in Korea. In his Yin and Yang series, which is also a title of the series of Kim’s works, opposite or irrelevant two images are represented as both digital image and an analogue brushstroke coexist within a canvas. This exhibition features Kim Kulim’s paintings, objects, and drawings, including 20 new works. The Yin and Yang series is a set of works Kim Ku Lim has been working on since the late 1980s until now, with the theme of opposition and unison of images. After he realized that the harmony of different materials is the principle of all things in the world, he focused on the fundamental concept of Yin and Yang. In these works, a critical message toward reality of people and the artist’s attempt to free the people from oppression are included. Through this exhibition, Gana Art would like to examine the characteristics and meanings of Kim Kulim’s Yin and Yang series in depth, and to reaffirm his position within the contemporary art history.
