Exhibition Information
Artist Lee Se-hyun's personal exhibition, Red Sansoo, well known for his red arithmetic, will be held in the gallery fountain. Completed with oil paintings on canvas covering linen cloth, his landscape paintings convey the writer's message because of their tangled substance and concept. The writer was born in Geoje Island and spent his childhood traveling between Tongyeong and the island. The images of the islands and the sea and the wharf remain in the structure of his paintings. The writer decided to become an artist and began his life in the foreign country by going to high school in Busan. He later studied painting at Hongik University, sending the Korean upheaval of the 1980s as a college student. The metaphor for social criticism and participation in the author's paintings seems to have been formed at this time. Later, the visual experience of the Army's frontline troops determines the number of red arithmetic that currently represents him. The sight of the mountains and fields reflected in the night-time infrared perspective was enough to be a new image of the world. Studying abroad at Chelsea College in England has become a period for Lee Se-hyun to give feedback on how to draw memories. The art college in London, which used to be the center of Western Contemporary Art, was full of ideas, theories and methodologies. Here, the writer had to defend his art world, built from a different perspective from Western painting, between the rise of conceptual art and the tradition of Western painting, and the result was completed in its current style. The year he returned to Korea was 2009. The writer has become a witness to a number of events in Korean society since his return, and his drawings as a symbol have been recorded in paintings like a kind of on-the-spot accusation. In retrospect, it was then that the nature of childhood, the social reality of school life, the visual experience of military service, and the concepts of hard work began to be expressed in the days of study. For the next 10 years, he has been in a top position, invited to a large-scale individual exhibition and biennale, and is a writer who guarantees both commercial and genuine. More than 20 of his paintings will be displayed in the gallery from April 8 to May 4. (Yoon Kyu-hong, Art Director/Art sociology)
