Exhibition Information
At the same time as Gallery Yialdi's new space is opened, it will hold a private exhibition of "RUNNING PAINTING" by a Gangwon-made writer from March 18 to April 30, 2019. The name 'RUNNING PAINTING' by Kang Won-je is derived from the fourth individual exhibition 'Drawing Paintings,' which was started to remind people of the continuous, repetitive and performing performances with the inherent multi-layered meaning of 'Learning.' The project began in July 2015 and has been under way for about four years so far in 2019 and continues painting every day. The author's motivation for starting the project was "to lead to a desire for 'real' that arose from the emptiness of the abstract art, and to the experience of being perceived as 'real' by painting." The author says that simply painting a brush or painting a paint on a canvas is an opportunity to recognize the vivid experience of the body and its own existence in the process, rather than the ideological nature to be understood in the mind. The project is called a 'painting-to-be' performance because it allows continuous artistic self-interest, or presence, through continuous painting. The work of By-product is the installation of individual completed works on steel structures. The installation process consisted of paintings and stereoscopic works from 2015 to the present time when the project began, and the installation method was beyond the traditional display method of hanging on the wall using canvas and frame. The installation reveals the process of time in which the author has done it by revealing the "physical quantity" of the work, and the process of many changes is complete. In addition, the volume of paintings will increase with each passing day, and the scale will also expand and the form will vary. Therefore, this installation is completed at the end of the project and is always in progress. The "Weighty Painting" series is also in the same vein, a three-dimensional work made by gluing several canvas pieces together. Images of glued works are not permanently appreciated and can only be checked for the amount of time through the 'diameter, weight' A series of working styles are not the way to convey messages that are meant through images or express specific narratives. Rather, it is a form of concealing the expressed image, which prevents the possibility of various semantic interpretations that occur when viewing the image and only reveals the objectivity of the painting. Kang Won-je's painting behavior has a non-material nature. This has a temporary characteristic that is dynamically present in the non-visual process and, as seen in the example of existing art writers, seeks to transform non-material properties into material forms to communicate with the audience through their traces even after the act ends.
