Exhibition Information
Gana Art Hannam is pleased to present 《The Made Body》, a solo exhibition of new canvas and paper works by Ethan Cook (b. 1983-). Widely known for his abstract paintings consisting of self-produced canvases, the artist creates an image with a canvas rather than adding elements to it. In this exhibition, Cook presents a new figure-ground composition in which the organically shaped figures interact with each other and generate a dynamic energy. The irregular shapes of color cut and sewn with adjacent pieces reveal his labor-intensive working process, allowing the viewer to witness the artist’s touch and presence. The exhibition also features a series of paper works for which the artist manufactured papers of different colors and constructed grid-like compositions. Within the range of ‘blue’, each work forms different variations and interacts with one another, generating music-like rhythmic sensations. Insisting on his labor-intensive practice when everything is being mechanized, Cook’s work implies the fundamental difference between humans and machines and evokes a contemplation on human existence. Through this exhibition, we wish to provide an opportunity to trace Cook’s creative process and experience synesthetic sensations triggered by his new body of work. (Source = Gana Art)
