Exhibition Information
‘I think the image contains only the image and the thought is the role of the audience. Just as Gauguin drew an image from Tahiti, I draw what I see." Luv Contemporary Art Seoul will hold a solo exhibition "Oasis" by dacsurlap as the first exhibition of the new year. This is his second solo exhibition. And he is known for exotic colors and rough pictorial texture. The core of dacsurlap’s painting is to combine images in media that are not related to each other and recreate them as a single image. Even if they are meaningful, they can be interpreted in their own way or treated as just a meaningless image, which can be seen as a pattern that appears in the artist's recent career. In previous works, instead of strong lines, the dreamy colors created by the combination of blurring surfaces that make with spray and paint create a language of sensory abstraction. Although the scattered colors of the texture seem to describe emotional portraits of humans, the impression of the erased characters meets the work with a visual sense that does not interfere with any prejudice. Dacsurlap has been deeply fascinated by the music of the British band ’Oasis’. Rather than creating their music, Oasis interpret what was already made in their own style. Without any special meaning, they created fun songs and the public were enthusiastic for them. This is a strong inspiration for dacsurlap's artistic behavior. Instead of struggle about the world of artwork, at last he can express himself comfortably and get rid of the meaning in art work. It is a gesture of ironic humility at the same time as hoping that the painting drawn by the artist's raw instinct will be loved by the public. The inconvenience of artistic impressions is that they are beyond dex-scription. We may have put too much effort into transferring aesthetic impressions to text. Just as Gauguin drew a drowsy woman and the texture of the sunshine in Tahiti, dacsurlap's paintings are the world he sees and our portraits themselves. We are highly recommended that you enter the gallery and soak in the primeval image of the moment. - Kim Kyu-hyang, Luv Contemporary Art President -
