			Hakgojae Cheongdam proudly presents the works of Chae Rimm (b. 1963, Seoul) in her solo exhibition on view from July 10th (Wed) to August 25th (Sun), 2019. Chae suggests a new harmony between contemporary art and traditional Korean art through her unique works using traditional Korean lacquer. The artist repeats highly advanced techniques such as ‘Saeng-chil,’ a process of applying unprocessed white lacquer collected from lacquer trees, ‘Chae-chil,’ a process of mixing color pigments with lacquer, ‘Seup-chil,’ a process of applying and wiping lacquer so it percolates well on to the surface, and more. Her work evokes unique colors and brilliance, and texture that is unachievable by other mediums. She also attaches gold, silver, crystals, mother-of-pearl, and gems on the surface, which creates a magnificent and sophisticated picture screen. 

Chae Rimm has been a jewelry designer since 2000. She works with jewelry artisans whom she met over the years since 2000. By doing so, Chae creates her own synthesized art world that embraces tradition and modern, traditional craft and design motives, as well as painting and sculpture. In this exhibition, Little Flower (2019), a new series by the artist is introduced for the first time. This exhibition invites its viewers to a dreamlike world that emits gentle scent of flowers in which the pastel toned artworks and the white cube meet. 

Chae Rimm received both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Ewha Woman’s University. She obtained a certificate of GIA G.G.in 2009. She is also a member of AIAM and the ADAGP. She has held solo exhibitions at Princeton Gallery (New Jersey, U.S.), Gallery BDMC (Paris) etc. She also participated in group exhibitions and art fairs at Saatchi Gallery (London), Grand Palais (Paris) and Pier 94 (New York). She received awards including Leonardo da Vinci International Art Award (Florence, Italy), Artexpo New York (New York), Eugène Fontenay Award (Paris). She was also selected at the 30th Japanese International Pearl Design Contest held by Mikimoto (Tokyo) and won the Asian Facet Award at JDMI Signity (Hong Kong).
