Exhibition Information
Gana Art is pleased to announce the opening of “the light artist” Woo Jaeghil (b. 1942)’s solo exhibition Woo Jaeghil: Archaeology of Light. Woo is a renowned artist from Gwangju and the pioneer of contemporary art in Gwangju. He has produced artworks that visualize the non-material element “light” in a geometric form on the canvas. The artist has been selected as one of the 100 representatives of Korean contemporary art by the Korea Art Critics Association to explore new areas of Korean contemporary abstract art, and his works are in the collections of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Seoul Museum of Art, the Gwangju Museum of Art, and the Supreme Court. Woo forms a square shape with masking tapes; he repeats the process and stacks light to his work. He has spent more than half a century on a consistent theme to present visuals of natural-inspired light that composes various colorful expressions and has built his unique art world. As Woo’s light of hope brightens the darkness, Gana Art hopes this exhibition will provide warm energy full of hope for the upcoming new year. (Source = Gana Art)
