Exhibition Information
Gana Art is pleased to present Creativity and Boredom, a retrospective of Chunryong ÔH (b. 1941). This exhibition is to reflect on ÔH’s 60-year painting career, featuring abstract paintings of the mid-to-late 1960s, and figurative works he has continued since his arrival in France in 1971. Considering occasional boredom as the motive of his creation, he has not hesitated to change his painting style, responding promptly to changes in his tastes, desires, and perspectives. While focusing on traditional genres such as landscapes, figures, and still life, his artistic world, completed through repeated formative experiments crossing the realm of figurative and non-figurative, is a journey of creation that began from his boredom and desire. “Ô Line,” a representative of ÔH’s work, is a single line with three layers made by making a groove in the center of a thick white line and thinly drawing a black line on top of it. Over the past 40 years, “Ô Line” has been variated into different forms. Since 2005, ÔH has experimented with using lines of various colors to express the color of the object only with the line, instead of not coloring the form and leaving the monochrome background exposed as it is. His lines and colors indistinguishable from each other, are the result of a long effort to fill a plane with only the basic elements of painting. Creativity and Boredom exhibits ÔH’s works and the thoughts he recorded about each of his works. Gana Art hope that this exhibition shows you his life story of pursuing novelty and seeking answers to boredom. (Source = Gana Art)
