Exhibition Information
Lee Eugean Gallery is delighted to present an exhibition 《探(Tam)》 of new artworks by Han Jae Hyuk from June 15 to July 14, 2023. Han’s first solo exhibition at Lee Eugean Gallery will highlight the works that have established a new type of painting by making oriental materials, traditional Korean paper (hanji) and rice paper, into his own formative languages. Like the title of exhibition ‘探(Tam)’ which translates ‘to study deeply’, the artist makes viewers think as unfamiliar images derived from the process of dismantling and recombining the existing thing, and provides an opportunity for new possibilities through communication with the inner-mind. This exhibition will feature around 23 works including the [tipping point], [跡(Jeok)] and [積(Jeok)] series. The artist recognized that in calligraphy, which he has been practicing for an extended period, there are limitations to represent the introspection based on the ontological topic such as what is independence and freedom in modern society, and who am I. In order to overcome the limitation of materials, the artist has explored various artistic materials and has finally reached his current method of work. Therefore, the artist's work assumes that he doubts everything he has learned and acquired in his life, and at the same time returns to 無 restarting from the beginning. (...)
