  • Gallery Hippie Hannam will close the year with a group exhibition "Warmth: The optimal temperature for comfort" by SEO Anna, SUH Eve, AHN Rio, and HONG Sujung from December 9 to December 29, 2023.

The exhibition is a soft, quiet voice of comfort from the four artists. Consolation means understanding and empathizing with the pain and difficulties of others and providing them with emotional support and encouragement, but it is not only for others but also for ourselves. Taking good care of ourselves is the beginning of comfort. We can sometimes over-comfort or under-communicate, which can be overwhelming and hurtful to the other person. There is a right time and a right amount of comfort. The consolation given by the four artists is a delicate consolation. It symbolizes the comfort that is offered subtly by simply being there for someone without being too close to them, and it is a comfort that you can give yourself, like the warmth that you can feel everywhere even in the cold of winter.

SEO Anna lives with her dog and cat. They and the cats she encounters on the road are the comforting companions in her daily life. Her witty and heartwarming portrayal of everyday life with pets makes us think about the intimate relationship we have with them. Whether it's a dog lying on the couch or a cat on the dining table, she captures everyday scenes with her pets with unique textures and warm emotions. Seo Anna's work is characterized by the use of thin layers of color to create a deep, warm feeling. Her work expresses the comfort that pets bring to us and the experience of interacting with them, giving viewers the opportunity to reflect on what it means to have an intimate and warm relationship.

SUH Eve mysteriously depicts the disparity between childhood fantasies and reality through the beautiful and warm textures and colors of porcelain.
For her, childhood was more like the life of a dwarf, who thought she would be like Snow White, but had to work and survive in a harsh environment. The existential sadness that she had to endure and strive for in order to become an artist is akin to the beautiful but fragile nature of porcelain. She beautifully sublimates the sad disparity between reality and ideals that everyone has felt at one time or another to convey comfort and courage. SUH Eve graduated from the Department of Environmental Sculpture at Seoul National University and studied ceramics at Hongik University Graduate School. She recently participated in the Marunuma Art Forest Residency in Japan, the Nomadic International Ceramics Residency in Chennai, India, and the Inger Ceramics Museum Residency in Taiwan. She participated in the Craft Trend Fair in 2022 and was recognized for her work.

AHN Rio creates colorful abstract expressionist works and ink works that add imagination to the ordinary. Both are inspired by the environment, culture, and the thoughts of people from different philosophies, with a focus on the expression of natural lines and planes that do not disturb the organic flow of nature and people. She hopes that viewers will be comforted and healed by the warm energy of her work, and she is always thinking about colors and shapes to create inner shapes. She received her B.A. in Visual Design from Seoul National University and her M.A. in Communication Design from Kingston University, UK. She has taught at Sungshin University, Sejong University, and Suwon University.

HONG Sujung focuses on the process of human birth and death as a common thread in forests and the flow of nature, and the "energy" that emanates from beautiful fleeting moments but is not directly perceived by us. The energy of these sparkling moments of life, invisible but definitely present, is constantly shifting and amplifying, and she expresses the movement of this energy in her paintings. She captures warmth in her paintings with beautiful colors and detailed compositions, hoping that viewers will experience the sparkling moments they want to achieve and find through her energy drawings. HONG Sujung completed her MFA and PhD programs in painting at Hongik University and has lectured at her alma mater, Deoksung Women's University, and Seoul Digital University. Her works are collected by world-renowned pianist Yuki Kuramoto.
