Exhibition Information
Gana Art presents a solo exhibition of Eun Nim Ro (b. 1946-), a painter of life who composes her screens with simple lines and primitive colors. The first female Korean artist to be appointed professor at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, she has been contributing to German art education for the last 20 years. As an internationally acclaimed artist, she received invitations to exhibit at Bauhaus, Berlin’s Haus der Kulturen der Welt, and Berlin Documenta. The exhibition around Ro’s nature and life, taking place at both Gana Art Center and Gana Hannam, features a variety of works: large paintings from ‘80s-‘90s, a documentary on her art philosophy directed by Barbara Kusenberg, terracotta, and of course, new paintings. Ro places large mulberry paper or multiple canvases on the floor, then with any tool within reach of her hand such as a brush, a broom, or a rag and “spiritual guidance,” draws, paints, throws, and stamps in a tempestuous process for her creations. Through her works attributed as the “bridge connecting oriental meditation and European expressionism,” we hope to provide an opportunity to experience her poetic answer to the vast subject of nature.
