Exhibition Information
A solo exhibition by Masahiko Tsubota, a master of Japanese monochrome painting, will be held in Daegu for the first time. Born in Himeji, Japan in 1947, Tsubota devoted himself to his work, demonstrating his own abstract painting style for 50 years starting in the 1970s, and passed away in 2023. Worked in the US and Europe. In his work, both the elements that form the screen and the techniques are simple and minimal. However, the process is steeped in deep thought and unique sensibility. From a distance, it appears to be all white, but if you look closely, countless subtly wavy, regular lines are revealed, and you are drawn into another world infinitely. There is no need to mention the delicacy of the complex shades illuminated by light. In the silence, the accumulation of time engraved as he silently performs exists intensely. His works, comprised of these visual elements, are deeply imbued with ontological reflection and philosophical thinking about life. Therefore, his works allow the viewer to fall into quiet and deep meditation. This exhibition, the first to be held in Daegu, will showcase approximately 50 of Tsubota's representative paintings and minimalist sculptures from the 1980s to recent works on the two floors of the gallery's A and B halls.
