30 Years of Sungkok Art Museum Founded in November 1995, Sungkok Art Museum marks its 30th anniversary this year. Over the past three decades, it has become one of Korea’s most acclaimed private museums, bridging art and the public. Sungkok Art Museum is rooted in the philosophy of the late Kim Sung-gon (1913–1975), an entrepreneur, educator, and politician who believed art and education were integral to shaping the future of society. His vision was carried forward by the late Chairman Kim Suk Won (1945–2023), whose initiative established the Sungkok Art and Culture Foundation, and later Sungkok Art Museum. Since its opening, the museum has supported artists across generations, developed educational programs, and advanced academic research. Through programs such as the Sungkok Artist of Tomorrow Award (1998–), the Sungkok Open Call, exhibitions of mid-career and senior artists, socially engaged projects, and international exchanges, it has expanded the scope of Korean contemporary art and contributed to the maturation of the cultural landscape. Continuing these efforts, Sungkok Art Museum aims to remain a platform for artistic experimentation and growth, fostering interdisciplinary connections with science, humanities, music, architecture, and design. Committed to presenting diverse, thoughtful exhibitions, it strives to stay open and accessible, making a lasting impact on society. The 30th-anniversary exhibition, In Portrait: Sungkok Art Museum 2025, offers a glimpse of the museum’s “present” through diverse perspectives of Korean and international artists. We look forward to your continued support as we welcome you to this moment—where accumulated time not only reflects on the past but also hints at what is to come. Sungkok Art Museum Director, Moon Soon Park
