  • Born in the mining village of Buhl in Alsace, Jean-Marie Haessle(1939-2024) first encountered art while drawing along with Van Gogh during long periods of illness and life in the mines.

His pursuit of art carried him from Paris to New York, where he worked among artists such as Andy Warhol, Nam Junw Paik, Arman, Bernar Venet, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, helping shape SoHo into and artistic district.

Haessle's paintings — the odyssey of a man who crossed hardship through art — resonate like stars navigating the night sky. They remind us that painting is an essential act, born of a powerful desire to remain transparent to oneself.
