Exhibition Information

Some things continue to move forward without losing their direction, even as everything around them keeps flowing. Trends change, markets shift, and generations turn over, yet certain works retain the power of endurance, speaking once again to each new gaze. On April 11, Conte B Gallery presents the group exhibition 《Blue Chip: Art Beyond Time》, an exhibition that asks what lies behind that force of continuity and endurance. In the art world, the term “blue chip” refers to artists whose value has been consistently proven beyond time and market fluctuations. This exhibition carefully brings together artists worthy of that name. At its center are works by Lee Ufan, Lee Bae, Ha Chong-Hyun, Chung Sang-Hwa, Paik Nam June, Kim Tschang-Yeul, Alex Katz, Jean-Michel Othoniel, along with nine additional artists. Spanning artists born from the 1920s to the 1980s, the exhibition brings together leading figures in both the Korean and international art markets, across painting, sculpture, media, and installation. Works that transcend time possess a force that is difficult to explain. A force that makes the viewer pause, renders the familiar unfamiliar, and continues to pull at one’s thoughts long after leaving the space. This exhibition ultimately asks: what draws a work beyond time, and what makes its endurance possible? We hope your time at Conte B Gallery becomes a place to seek that answer.
