  • The Daegu Metropolitan Government has established and operated the Lee In-sung Art Award since 2000 to honor Lee In-sung (1912-1950), a genius painter from Daegu, and to promote the development of the painting area. The Lee In-sung Art Award selects and awards one winner every year for artists who are promoting their own work activities centering on paintings, and holds a private exhibition that sheds light on the world of the winner's work the following year.

With the upcoming 20th anniversary of the Lee In-sung Art Awards in 2020, the exhibition was specially designed to shed light on the world of paintings by Lee In-sung in order to promote his spiritual career. Daegu was the only light for him who experienced the dark tunnel of the Japanese occupation. Despite the dark times and poor family conditions, he grew into a master of modern times with the full support and encouragement of his people. It was his golden age from the 1930s to the 1940s, when he worked hard on his work from Daegu to Japan. In this context, this exhibition focuses on the 20 years that were the height of the canvas, and presents a selection of major works that can read the regional and spiritual context of the hometown. The entries are subdivided into landscape paintings that served as the basis of the work, and portraits and still-life paintings that were the basis of the spirit. It also organizes archives and documentaries so that the writer's life can be better understood by citizens. This exhibition will be a great opportunity to understand the importance of times and hometown for an artist.
