Exhibition Information
Cheongju, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, will display Choi Jung-hwa’s <Dandelion> as the first outdoor project in the newly created grass square. Cheongju Pavilion’s first outdoor exhibition project, <Dandelion> is a large installation featuring a giant dandelion hole, 9 meters high and 3.8 tons of weight, utilizing everyday items such as pots and baskets commonly used in the home. The artist produced the work with 7,000 donated household items from the < Gathering Gathering> Project, which produces artworks with citizens for the exhibition of <2018 MMCA Hyundai Motor Series.> Choi Jung-hwa is a writer who produces various installation works using mass-produced everyday consumer goods such as plastic baskets and balloons. His work style, which captures universal stories with trivial everyday items, captures one side of Korean society, breaking down the boundaries of high-end art and pop culture. Just as the old factory building was reborn as an art museum, <Dandelion>, whose discarded daily supplies were sublimated as art works, will be a message of 'rehabilitation and hope' and revitalize the grass square.
