Exhibition Information

Introduction of exhibition "Back Beat!," an individual exhibition by Kwon Hye-sung from Feb. 7 to Feb. 27, 2020, presents a black drawing series that carried out the act of transferring sensory experiences from nature to the ground. The writer has been trying to figure out how to embody the sense of the body that experiences the flow of air. To express tactile and sensuous natural phenomena that are not fixed types of objects, such as wind from the air, water and motion of waves made in the river or sea, the author concentrates on the body's sense of rhythm in which music is embodied by hanging. And the movement of the on-screen lines, where numerous lines overlap and bump into each other, will present a screen that can be combined with a colorful tone that changes in black density. The author borrowed the exhibition title, Back Beat!, from "Back Beat ni nokkatte /バックビ / / /backbeat" of Fishmans’ 97 album Uchu Nippon Setagaya. Backbeat is generally a musical term, but the author uses the rhythm he felt in Fishmans music as a title to recognize the excitement and sensibility that music responds with the visual arts by sharing it in the work process.
