			Art Delight Gallery presents <Shines in the Dark>, the 23rd solo exhibition of the artist Jeong Zik Seong(b.1976~) in April. This exhibition will showcase Najeon lacquer works that the artist has studied since 2019. The characteristics of nature and climate she observed from her travels between Jeju Island and Gyeonggi-do are captured in her works.

Najeon is one of the techniques of decoration of lacquer work, and cuts mother-of-pearl in various forms to make patterns by incorporating them onto the surface of the object. It is a labor-intensive process that requires highly skilled craftsmen to lead to sophisticated repetitive hand techniques. Jeong trained with artisans in the studio for more than a year, and this is the result of working and collaborating with artisans for a long time.

In order to modernize Najeon, she spared no effort in coordinating and retranslating the customs of artisans who have kept them from long ago. This exhibition will be an exhibition focused on reflections on lacquer crafts and re-examination of possibilities and rediscovering tradition.


For Jeong Zik Seong, Najeon is a form of comfort and a new world. Through the medium of Najeon, she met new people and was able to open up her own world. I met Jeong several times in preparation for the exhibition. I was able to have sincere sympa-thy by looking at her artist's note. Jeong has a sense of stability, healthy vitality, and no loss of dignity even in a painful situation.

The world being in a confused state, I was feeling uneasy preparing for the exhibition at this time. Rather than giving into the fear and feeling of unknown that the situation has brought, I have decided to proceed with the exhibition. We look forward to admiring the works and receiving inspiration and comfort from the exhibition.
