Exhibition Information
The National Museum of Korea(Director Bae Gi-dong) will hold its theme exhibition <THE MUSEUM & THE WAR> (2020.6.25 to 9.13) to greet the 70th anniversity of the Korean War. This exhibition is designed to highlight the National Museum of Korea, which was in danger of disappearing due to the war that took place 70 years ago, and to share the lessons of overcoming the national crisis and peace. The first part of "Our Cultural Heritage in Crisis" introduces the cultural assets that were suffering from the war and examines the crisis and damage suffered by the National Museum of Korea from 'the occupation of Seoul' until 'the restoration of September 28'. It convey the horror of the war such as the Seonrimwon, which was preserved at Woljeongsa Temple in Odaesan Mountain, were destroyed and burned down. The second part, "Protecting Culture and Promoting the World", highlights the efforts which took refuge in Busan in December 1950, to protect and continue Korean culture in shelters. Baek Nak-jun(1895-1985), the Minister of Education , who approved the relocation of the National Museum of Korea, and other related materials will be presented. In addition, the theme exhibition was selected from the exhibits of the permanent exhibition hall, such as Tombstone of King Jinheung of Silla(National Treasure No. 3) and celadon lion-shaped incense burner(National Treasure No. 60), which were damaged during the Korean War or introduced by National Museum so that visitors can find their location with pamphlets. Seventy years ago, in the midst of the crisis of war, there were people who protected the cultural assets left by their ancestors and continued their new culture. What they defended and nurtured was Korean culture and pride in showing it to the world. I hope you guys can feel their traces in this exhibition. [Source] National Museum of Korea Homepage
