Exhibition Information
Kwon Hoon Chill(1948-2004) was a writer who lived as a recluse and built his own world of work. This exhibition tries to redefine its meaning by looking at the attitude of the author who chose to walk his path silently rather than build a brilliant career and the work that is the product of endless research. The exhibition especially focuses on Kwon Hoon Chill's landscape paintings. Kwon Hoon Chill, a promising writer who won the Prime Minister's Award(1979) and the Minister of Culture and Information(1979), is well-known for his abstract paintings that show off his well-defined balance and subtle physical experiments. However, the author, who wanted to express the ideological order through abstract painting and seek enlightenment from the experience of nature, left a number of simple, neat landscapes. The delicate reproduction and light-filled screen of Kwon Hoon Chill's landscape paintings reveal the author's exploration process of trying to reach an understanding of the world by getting closer to the subject. I hope this exhibition will serve as an opportunity to share meaningful questions in Kwon Hoon Chill's landscape painting with more people. [Source] Seoul National University Museum of Art homepage
