			Gana Art Sounds is pleased to announce its first exhibition with the artist Maria Chang, opening on Wednesday, September 9th. The exhibition features a series of new paintings, "Spring Series" and "In Between-Spring Series," characterized by a thick matière. "In Between-Spring Series" combines the features of her previous works "Spring Series" and "In Between." In the series, "In Between" that began in 2019, the artist created paintings that were close to relief by using materials that could bring out the volume of the painting, such as plaster and sand. The gridded plane builds a three-dimensional space where positive and negative space coexists. Such sculptural features in the paintings are also revealed in her work style of handling plaster as if carving using tools such as wide-sided knives commonly used for cement-applying, iron brushes, and a rubber spatula. In “Spring Series,” which began at the same time, she began to reveal the colors that had been hidden under the plaster. In the new paintings combined with these features, the traces left by the artist get out of the geometric grid, form the plane rhythmically and make a feast of colors on the surface. This exhibition will provide a glimpse into the spectrum of Maria Chang’s works, who is constantly challenging to find her own language.
