Exhibition Information
Because of Covid-19, It was an eventful year than ever. At the end of 2020, Goeun Museum of Photography will host the annual exhibition "Goeun Museum of Photography + KT&G Imagination Madang: 12th KT&G SKOPF Artist of the Year". The annual exhibition has been established as a support program for Korean photographers to discover and foster new photographers who combine the traditional value of photography with the continuous experimental spirit since 2012 by cooperating with Goeun Museum of Photography and KT&G Sangsangmadang. The 12th KT&G SKOPF Artist of the Year exhibition will feature works by Kim Kyu-sik, Kim Hyo-yeon, and Cho Kyung-jae, who were finally selected in the KT&G Imagination Madang Korean Photographer Support Program." In the works of three photographers with creative thinking and original perspectives, a special world that embodies modern issues unfolds as diverse as the band of Mobius. In particular, vivid and innovative images of modern Korean photography unravels the convergence and complex mode of modern photography with a new sense, crossing all areas of expressive visual art. Kim Kyu-sik's "Non-picture" is one of the experimental works on the projection of photographs and material relationships that have been conducted since 2016. His latest work, "Non-picture," contains thoughts on images created by light and particles, although there are no reproductions and no films taken. I have the grammar of the picture, but I think I'm looking at the drawing, not Jaehyun. However, "non-picture" has particles and appears to be a reproduction of the actual target and space. The high sensitivity transparent film used instead of the film taken and the paint particles sprayed on the glass plate feel like real photographic images. In his work, the reproduction of the photograph is dealt with on a material level, and all of it was completed after the drawing. Drawing consists of what you see with your eyes and what you imagine, but I don't mean to show it in the finished picture through the final print. Only this photo is a combination of particles, and the difference in concentration produced by silver particles is expressed as a new photo image. Kim Hyo-yeon's "Sense Idea" is a subjective documentary picture that sheds light on our history, which has yet to be clearly established due to photographic work that began through the writer's family history. At the end of the Pacific War, our historical issues such as meeting with grandmother, the youngest daughter of an oriental medical clinic in Hiroshima, Japan, and her maternal grandfather who was drafted from Korea to Japan, separated from grandmother and grandmother's family in 1944 and North Korea's nuclear test and radioactive. In particular, subject selection, rich sensibility, and in-depth approaches and narrative structures come true. Cho Kyung-Jae's "Untitled" consists of photographs and installations. We are choosing a work method that makes everyday life and reality into an abstract space and completes it with photographs through the camera's restrained framing. His special spatial production makes the subjects in the photograph recognized as a combination of original values, functions, and new materials that break away from their original form. In particular, it is impressive that the artist himself does not impose a clear theme and value of the work, but opens up the possibility of forming various views and discourse among individual visitors. As an extension of photography, his installation format is an extension of photography that overcomes the abstract limitations of photography and is also a trend of modern photography. The three photographers, Kim Kyu-sik, Kim Hyo-yeon, and Cho Kyung-jae, with their original perspectives and passion, are emerging photographers who will shine the future of the Korean photography industry. The 12th KT&G SKOPF Artist of the Year exhibition at the Goeun Museum of Photography, where each photographer's various internal experiences and humanities will be faithfully expressed, is prepared to meet and communicate with artists who will give directions for future Korean photographs. In particular, it will be a place to check the vision and future of Korean modern photography in the 21st century, leading global trends such as the scalability of modern photography, originality of expression media, exhibition space concept, and variety of exhibition forms. We invite you to the "12th KT&G SKOPF Artist of the Year" with the Goeun Museum of Photography and KT&G Sangsangmadang, which has been striving to revitalize Korean photography art and develop local culture. Thank you. Director of Goeun Museum of Photography, Lee Jae-gu
