Exhibition Information
The exhibition "A Sculpture Dreaming Downstream of the River" deals with the scenery seen while traveling around the border areas, which aims to portray the visual play felt while observing the object and the landscape in a sunny atmosphere through painting. "Geumgangsan Mountain" is a series of works that have been conducted since 2012 and depicts landscapes that are restricted from entering or unable to take pictures. The DMZ Landscape Series is based on experiences near the truce line that have been seen since childhood since it was born. As a child, the spaces where people freely took pictures with small cameras are made into more special spaces, restricting the freedom of this place militarily over time. This restriction may be a matter of national defense and security in the country under the truce or of DMZ security and tourism products, but each time, the scope of the restriction has changed depending on political situations. Two years ago, he visited 707op, located further north than the Unification Observatory in Goseong, Gangwon-do, as an event of the Ministry of National Defense. A soldier expanded the Geumgangsan Mountain surrounding his eyes through a large telescope and showed it on a monitor, and black holes (bunkers) were drilled throughout the expanded Geumgangsan Mountain. The enlarged scenery in the monitor, which cannot be filmed, was drawn depending on drawing and memory. In the early work of the DMZ Landscape Series, the recent work aimed to maximize the psychological experience of the landscape in the painting, while the limited landscapes were more realistic in the canvas.
