  • Everyone may have had a hopeful idea that their life is of special value and that they can achieve something great in the future. As time goes by, however, there are times when frustration comes that cannot be prevented by an individual's power, or even the lonely time that is cut off from the world, comes into life. In the face of these moments, the existence of "I myself" seems to have become miserable for a moment and abandoned by the world. However, thinking that time for yourself will come back someday, "I myself" hides in a huge note and prepares for another time, watching the world. "Honggok," which ends with "Big geese and swans," contains the above-mentioned sense of subject matter.

When I entered the conception to express this as a work, I gained a lot of motifs and inspiration from the traces of those who lived in the past through various classics, history, and literature. For this reason, the metaphor of borrowing the form of fables and the classical form of drawings are revealed in the work. Contrary to the specific purpose of other oriental paintings, I wanted to express the unorthodoxy that I felt in my life through the form of an animal, saying, "I wanted to capture myself in a loving way.

To complete these drawings through the style of painting, I felt that a conservative technological approach was necessary. However, due to the nature of the materials to be drawn, delicate expressions were required, making it difficult to produce works with common Oriental dye and paper. So I chose the pattern of the color of the silk. In the past, I was impressed by the meticulous depictions of painters who were active in Myungmal Cheongcho and the coloring techniques shown by modern Japanese artists, but I focused on creating my own style of painting by selecting the advantages of the techniques they showed.

The traces of those who dreamed of a better tomorrow despite their isolation from the world remain in the form of numerous history and art, giving people living today a reason to live tomorrow. It is not the time for a person to be swept away by the world, but rather when he or she gets away from it and faces a lonely self that reveals his or her greatness. A world beyond a human's control, a figure of "I myself" enduring it in a resolute manner. I wanted to reveal that person's attitude through a series of works
