Exhibition Information

The Naju National Museum (Director Eun Hwa-soo) and Yeonggwang-gun (Gunsu Kim Joon-sung) will hold a special exhibition <The Divine Light, Glory> from October 20 (Tue) to January 17, 2021 at the planning and exhibition hall. This exhibition, which comprehensively promotes the historical and cultural heritage of Yeonggwang-gun, will feature 250 cultural assets that show the history and culture of glory, including "Wallin Seokbo" (Treasure No. 1470-1).

Among them are manually excavated bird-patterned bronze ware, Buddhist cultural assets of Bulbapsa, including "Wolin Seokbo," which symbolizes the ancient glory culture, "Kanyangrok" (1567-1618), and Ahn Jung-sik's "Yeonggwangpunggyeongdo". As such, you can see the rich culture of glory by displaying the important cultural assets of glory in one place.

The Naju National Museum of Korea organized the exhibition to contribute to the preservation and utilization of the historic and cultural heritage of Yeonggwang by holding the exhibition based on the survey of Yeonggwang area. For this purpose, the exhibition consisted largely of four parts.

Part 1 "Prehistoric Age and Ancient Yeonggwang" introduces the history of the Three Kingdoms from the prehistoric age of glory. This section features a fist ax discovered in the Stone Age of the Junggu District, black pottery excavated from the ruins of Gun-dong, bird-shaped pottery, and three bowls excavated from Seolmae-ri and Songjuk-ri showing Baekje culture. In particular, the bird-patterned bronze ware excavated manually represents the ancient culture of glory along with its beauty, and the bird-pattern pottery excavated from the site of Gun-dong is a unique earthenware found in Yeonggwang.

Part 2 " Yeonggwang of the Goryeo Dynasty" deals with the history from the Unified Silla Period to the Goryeo Dynasty. This section introduces the glorious social culture of the Goryeo Dynasty with the theme of the Yeonggwang Tribe, the Goryeo Sea Road, pottery, and Buddhist culture. In particular, the pottery from the coast of Nakwoldo Island reflects the geographical environment of Yeonggwang, which is located on the path of the sea. It also introduces the glorious Buddhist culture that flourished through Buddhist cultural assets such as Bulbapsa and Yeonheungsa.

The third part, "Yeonggwang of the Joseon Dynasty," is divided into "Eupseong Fortress," "Byeonseongchang", "Eupseong Fortress", "Eupseongchang", "daily life", and "a person who protected the country and the village. Daedongyeojido (Treasure No. 1581), which features Yeonggwang area in the middle of this exhibition space, is also displayed to encompass the society and culture of glory. In particular, we would like to inform the glorious people who have dealt with the crisis of the country through related cultural assets, including "Kanyangrok" written by Ganghang, who was taken prisoner in Japan and engaged in cultural exchanges with Japanese intellectuals.

Part 4 "Yeonggwang of Modern Age" introduces the social culture of modern glory, focusing on Ahn Jung-sik's "Glory Landscape", which is considered a masterpiece. In particular, materials of honorable cultural figures such as Park Joong-bin (1891-1943), pioneer of polymath research Yi Eul-ho (1910-1998), and Gong Ok-jin (1931-2012), the founder of a one-man Changmu drama, will be displayed.

In addition, various exhibition aids such as video clips were used to explore local cultural heritage. In particular, a realistic video corner was set up in the exhibition hall to reflect on life with the head of Bulbbapsa Temple.

We hope that this exhibition will serve as a good opportunity to increase understanding of the historical and cultural heritage of glory and to raise interest in glory.
