Exhibition Information
The Seoul Museum of Art has been developing children's exhibitions and programs that present the world of contemporary artists' works as a repository of creative inspiration. In its 15th attempt, "Wadangtangtungtang" prepared with Sasa [44] will be held from December 12, 2020 to September 9, 2021. Sasa [44], a participating artist, is well-known for her vast collection size, duration, and uniqueness of the collection, which makes it impossible to find comparisons in the art world. The artist's personal archives are full of rare items, ranging from monthly, weekly, and daily newspapers to the first issue of "Treasure Island," a comic magazine that occupies a unique status in Korean comics history, and limited edition sneakers. This exhibition sheds light on the creative power of collection activities through a comprehensive collection of daily traces that are extremely ordinary, and thus seem worthless. Collection and records are already familiar to children's audiences who will come to see this exhibition, such as Lego, diary decorating (aka "Dakku") items, collecting idol goods, writing diaries and pocket money entries. Sasa [44] was never informed by anyone, but she began collecting from her childhood instinct, and the passion of that time was the starting point for the present world of work. I hope that the artist's move to connect the activities of "collection" with art creation will provide a unique perspective on collection, while also providing an interesting example of a character constantly studying a topic and building his or her identity.
