Exhibition Information

  • 			* Introduction

    Bae Heum's "Fyka Foretold..." (predicted by Pyka), which is held in SeMA Warehouse B space, attempts to reverse the conventional role of reproduction painting by borrowing a form of "fake background painting" that was previously produced to increase the realism of events in the film industry.

    In this exhibition, the fictional character Fyka's prediction of the current air quality in his own way unfolds like a painting and installation. The author presents a clear sky as a fictional image, contrasting with the daily experience of enduring fine dust in large cities. The writer pays attention to the ambivalence expressed when the painting is used as a tool for conveying narrative, and when it reveals its own mediums away from it. In particular, it attempts to reconsider the traditional role of the "painter" in drawing fictional narratives in reenactment paintings and to break the conventional link between the subject of painting and reality. From this point on, he explored new narrative forms and sought to diversify the ways of pictorial practice.

    * Introduction of artist

    Bae Heyum (born 1987)

    Bae He-yum captures the flow and generation of reasons through abstract painting styles. The work is attributed to the curiosity about media reality that affects the formation of contemporary visual perception, and the exploration of the narrative structure and system in which the content of the painting is created becomes the overall basis of the work.

    The "Fyka Foretold..." (predicted by Pika), presented at the SeMA warehouse in 2021, is a project designed during this questioning process. Major individual exhibitions include individual exhibitions <Snake Swallowing its Tail> (2018, OCI Museum of Art), <Circle to Oval> (2017, Project Space Sarubia Dabang), and recently performed in two-person exhibitions and team competitions at Whistler, Doosan Gallery Seoul, Hite Collection, Hakgojae, and Platform L Art Center.
