The Right Way to Be Right Now: Start-Up Even if one becomes an artist after years of efforts, another job has to be needed for a living. Everyone considers the situation the vocation of people who make their favorite job as vocation, ‘calling it the reality,’ as a matter of course. The saying “You have to embrace the burden because you like it!” has the meaning that you can live the right life only if you should not choose what you like as a job in the end. Why are the artists keeping their hard life as an artist? Their answers are boring and familiar. “Well, I’m just taking my responsibility for myself and doing my best to the end, appreciating the jobs that I want to do and the time and help so far.” We ask ourselves back to this ordinary answer that we have heard somewhere. What is the RIGHT life? In 2021, the Rising Artists Scouting Exhibition The Right Way to Be Right Now in Art Space Gwanggyo exhibition, in Korean title Be Jeongsang, has two different meaning in each two words: BE for ‘To be’ or ‘Non-(Bi 非)’ and Jeongsang for ‘Normal(正常)’ or ‘Top(頂上).’ Each meaning makes muli-layered meaning depending on the combination. The exhibition focuses on ‘artists who want to reach the top’ and ‘artists who have not yet reached the top,’ while also consider the ‘abnormal(非正常) structure in which the job as artists is maintained’ and ‘the standard and meaning of normal(正常).’ This exhibition presents the works and the records of the lives of the five artists: Yangwoo Kim, Hye Kyoung Kwon, Yujin Seo, Taekang Lee, Deokhyeon Jeong. With their works and archive, the artists visualize the progress on the way to ‘the top of themselves’ that they defined themselves. We hope the records of these artist would give the time in which audiences could discover their own ‘Right.’
