Exhibition Information
<Open Codes>, jointly curated by Nam June Paik Art Center and Karlsruhe Art and Media Center (hereafter ZKM) in Germany, is an exhibition that reflects the world we live in today as a world made of digital codes. (...) Looking into the world formed and maintained by digital codes, this exhibition focuses on other scenes beyond the smooth screen, along with contemporary artists who focus on computer language as a medium that mediates two or more. In addition, we propose a new sense of the nature and creative properties of computer code, away from the user experience that stayed on the surface while facing the world built with programming languages every day. To this end, the participation of the audience becomes a major network constituting the exhibition in the exhibition space designed to allow art creation, learning and discussion based on code to take place together. In particular, at a time when problems hidden beneath the surface of the world are revealed due to a pandemic such as digital alienation, polarization, and platform labor, and social distancing has changed the art medium and knowledge sharing style, Nam June Paik Art Center’s “Open Code. Network of Commons” is an exhibition and educational experiment towards the potential of networked digital commons. (Source = Nam June Paik Art Center)
