Role and Attitude of an Artist -Kim, Kira To me, an artist is like humanism after the death of man. Without another hard-edged analysis and change of perception on the history and the current condition, then the present life wouldn't be much different from the future that we dream of. I do agree to certain extent that artists could change the world, however I am still cynical about changing the entire world. In my knowledge, the portion and position of an artist is to become the eye, perspective and position of that generation. The role and attitude of an artist is crucial in what to look at but it is bound to be a position of suggesting the means of looking at things. Artists seem to play a role of melding the crevice between the time and space within history, building a bridge in between. In the stance of viewing the artist's position and attitude, I think the moral of an artist is to shatter stereotypes and prejudices, similar to activists who yearn for true freedom and equality. I have dealt with the problems of my surroundings in diverse angles, pointing out the social inequality and prejudice. These works of mine are probably the inadequate position and attitude of an artist, measuring the fading humanism and common good in this era. I feel the necessity to provide the stage of reflection, where artists, various professionals and collaborators living in this society of inequality and prejudice to bond and contemplate together. Through this, new discourse would develop whether it is the contemporary art movements or general social art movements, or the various forms of methods to practice such movements.
