Exhibition Information

			The exhibition Ha-Ha-Ha Haus invites visitors to reflect on the meaning of family and care at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has made everyone realize the importance of ordinary life and the people around us. “Ha-” is both the sound of joy expressed in laughter and the sound of dejection carried in a sigh, connoting the myriad emotions that we experience when we care for and spend time with our families. “Haus” is the common space where these complex feelings are shared.


 


The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has granted us time to think about the need to look after our families and society at large. It has presented questions of survival as well as the critical issue of maintaining a society, raising the need for communities to talk together. In light of this social situation, Ha-Ha-Ha Haus expands the discussion on care by approaching it through the topics of housework, parenting, and other family issues that exist in the community that closely binds us all.


 


Seven individual artists and one pair—Seunghee Kim, Heoang Kim, Heera Kim, Juhee Youn, Sunmin Lee, Munkyung Chung, Youngjoo Cho, and Jincho Youn & Alexander Ruth—present a diverse range of works based on their daily lives that deal with family and related issues. The exhibition reveals the artists’ stances as members of society and shares insightful questions they ask as artists, encouraging an exchange of ideas and thoughts. 


 

We hope that this exhibition becomes a space to discuss how all members of a community can support and care for each other, and to think about the meaning and value of looking after each other in a social community.
