Exhibition Information

Gallery LVS will hold a solo exhibition for Kim Dong Jun from October 20th to November 24th. The exhibition consists of 20 Moon Jars, featuring 15 pieces at the main Gallery LVS located in Sinsa-Dong, and also exhibit 5 pieces at ‘Eungundang 鷹雲堂’ in Buam-Dong as well.

Moon Jar has become something that is more than just a beloved heritage and that inspires artists beyond times beyond the most beloved cultural assets. The meaning of color white explains various materials and concepts such as beginning and the end, sky and earth and presence and absence. White looks like nothing, but there is a sense of fullness, relaxation, and elegance that embraces everything. Just as there have always been people who have wear white clothes, and there have been people who want to inherit white porcelain for life, white is the ultimate idol that human’s worship and want to resemble.

Kim Dong Jun’s moon jar highlights the life in which the times and humans are in harmony. The moon jars made for a short century in the long Korean history, which do not remain as relics, but exist as a genre of modern and contemporary craft, like a difficult but glorious life that is passed on from generation to generation. The old cracked white jar that Kim Dong Jun first met was made with earth and human will, and it did not disappear over time and had endured the times silently. It aroused in him an amazing creativity and a desire for succession. An old moon jar holds years of joy and sorrow. It contains the human aspiration to continue to live a valuable and happy life even when suffering from pain. The moon jar is a noble object made with both hands full of human will, and continue to live for several decades.

The moon jars in this exhibition are all made by wood kilns this year. The Part 1 main exhibition will be held at Gallery LVS (Sinsa-Dong), and the Part 2 special exhibition will be held for a limited time at Eungungdang鷹雲堂 in Buam-Dong under a pre-booking system. Eungungdang is a newly introduced space by Judy Lee, CEO of Gallery LVS. It is a small old house deep in the mountains, operated as an gallery space, and is about to meet the public for the first time.
