Exhibition Information
The Gwangju-Bacolod Artist Collaboration: Cycle project, which marks its 7th anniversary this year, has been active as a non-face-to-face online collaboration since 2020. This online collaboration was curated to examine how space changes by paying attention to locality in the re-recognition of boundaries and what types of reconstruction this may lead to when “trans” (as a new way of crossing boundaries) and “locality,” as a unit, meet the four artists from Gwangju (Korea) and Bacolod (Philippines). The artists have the same origins in common (two from Gwangju, two from Bacolod), but they are currently residing in different cities, including Seoul, Gongju, Gwangju, Bacolod, and Brussels, and are active across regions. Although their physical locations were different, the four artists conducted their first collaboration to connect with each other and express their interpretation of the subject through the virtual space known as “online.” The first video work produced in this manner led to collaboration in which they exchanged their work again at each other's locations, reinterpreting it in their respective expression methods, and adding meaning. “Are We Linked?” examines the connection point of information and data that we exchange countless times in our daily lives, its beginnings and before, and the series of processes that occur as we cross the boundaries inherent in them. This collaboration, which began from the concept of “trans-locality,” focuses on the spatiality of the present interpreted by artists in different locations. You can see the collaboration works of four artists in OverLab.Space from Nov 16. Please give us a lot of interest. (Source = overlab)
