  • Introduction
Through a special exhibition for the 4th anniversary of its opening, the National Center for Asian Culture will unveil the Nusantara collection, which was certified by the Dutch city of Delft.‘Nushantara’ is an old jawah word meaning ‘The kingdom of many islands,’ which has been the most prosperous in history since the 13th century and is considered the root of modern Indonesia, called itself. The exhibition is designed to examine what culture Nusantara was influenced by, how each community was formed, and how the tradition was preserved and transferred to other countries based on the basis of 350 species and 450 languages. Understanding and respecting cultural diversity is an important value for us living in a multicultural era. During the 1945 Declaration of Independence, the Nusantara people, who were bound together as a national community, were living together to feel the dynamism of Asian culture that co-exist freely and fuse freely.

    Exhibition Guide
[1st] A sea route, leading to an island
Nusanta is located in the middle of the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, and has been a place where ships, supplies, people, and culture are constantly intersected. The stories of myths and life carried on the seashore according to the seasons have become seeds that form the worldview of Nusantara, and flowered through the process of acceptance and adaptation in the local area as a symbol system that encompasses society, culture and art.
[2nd] A Country of Many Islands, Nushantara
From the west to the east of Nusantara, there are traces of life left behind on many islands. Beliefs and thoughts in architecture, dress, ceremonial tools, and living tools that correspond with their lives unfold to us in a colorful way. Also, the same patterns of behavior that each person has built up in their own place of life remind us of Nushantara, which had been breathing into a cultural sharing group before the single state system.
[3rd] Indonesia to Communicate with the World
Modern Indonesia combines various ethnic groups and lifestyles, and strives to achieve social unity through cultural content with traditional values. Indonesia's Batik, Chrys, and Woyang were recognized for their cultural origin and value due to their high degree of symbolism, artistry, and technological perfection as well as their long-standing historical origins, and were listed as UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The efforts for creative succession of these sports are a forum for discussion on the practicality and artistry of tradition in modern society.
