  • Jeonju Museum of Art (Chairman Kim Wan-ki) will hold <Eternal Illuminated Star VI_Modern Writer JacGo Exhibition>" from Tuesday, January 7, 2020 to Thursday, March 31, in order to understand the flow of modern art in North Jeolla Province through the exhibition of small artists from the region.

The modern writer who was adopted <Eternal Illuminated Star VI_Modern Writer JacGo Exhibition> is Lee Gwang-ryul of Hyosan. Lee Kwang-yeol has lived in Jeonju all his life from the horse he saved to the modern era, where he studied and educated for folklore dream. In addition, he is known for his versatility in poetry, books and painting.

Lee Kwang-ryul is a descendant of Jeon Ju-yi's transferor, whose father is a left-hand man. He was noble by nature and neat in appearance, and did not turn his eyes to injustice or dishonesty. Since I was young, I have studied various subjects such as calligraphy and learning from my grandfather, Lee In-sok, and Joo Jae-seung, and Sungjae Kim Tae-seok.

He entered Jeonju Public Normal School in 1900, learned Western culture, and worked as a clerk in 1904. After the Gyeongsul National Assembly, he ended his managerial career and taught at a school in Daa Park. Since the closure of the Hamjuk School, he has continued his education at the second ordinary school in Jeonju since 1913. In addition, he was appointed as a member of the school affairs committee in North Jeolla Province in 1919 or opened a gas forest in Seohak-dong.

He was well-known in painting, so he was selected as a hawk and mukjuk at the 6th Joseon Art Exhibition in 1927 and 7th Joseon Art Exhibition in 1928. In 1929, he became a member of the Japan Book Fair, and in 1930, he was widely known as a calligrapher by entering the Japan Gyeongdo Literary Festival in Gyeongdo, Japan.

Lee Kwang-ryul is a lovable native, and his compilation of "Jeonju-sa" is considered a very important material for his junior students. In addition, it established Hanmookhoe, which is a prototype of a calligraphy academy, in Daadong, Jeonju, in 1935, along with Seolsong Choi Kyu-sang and Yu Dang Kim Hee-soon. Through this, he helped develop calligraphy in North Jeolla Province by interacting with many calligraphers as well as fostering students.
