Exhibition Information
The Seoul Museum of Art is holding an exhibition of <Modern Rose> at the Museum of Southwest Wool Art, a time-honored architecture. The building of the Namseoul Museum of Art is a former Belgian Consulate built during the Korean Empire, a rare modern western building that retains its original appearance even after more than a hundred years since its establishment. Built, dismantled, restored and now an art museum through the turbulent modern days of Korea, the building creates a heterogeneous landscape in which various time and space coexist. This makes us feel nostalgic as if we were entering a suspended past when we entered the space of an art museum. This aesthetic value is also in line with the multi-layered present life that is creating the present. The <Modern Rose> exhibition seeks to cite the multilayered side of the present, which is bound to be incomplete, by looking at the psychological side of the architecture’s mediated emotions. <Modern Rose> is the title of an article about roses at the Belgian Consulate in the early 20th century. As Japanese occupation to the Belgian Consulate has sold, these roses are from the west at the time of the Chosun Hotel was taken to the Rose Garden, modern sensibility to enjoy a symbol. To be. Today roses began in <Modern Rose>, where Oriental laurels were handed down to Europe and made in meeting with Old Rose. <Modern Rose> later flowed back into the East and is now the most familiar flower to us. Just like the story of a well-known flower but not familiar rose, the main exhibition relapses the story of the present day when it meets the complex time of modern times through the story of the construction of the Namseoul Museum of Art. <Modern Rose> is a separate, individual exhibition of each of the seven artists’ newly produced or directed works for the exhibition. At the same time, it has an omnibus novel-like composition that links to stories unearthed from records and memories of the architecture of the Namseoul Museum of Art. Writers attempt an artistic interpretation of the way records and memories work, moving from Belgian Consulate in the early 20th century to Namhyeon-dong in redevelopment and past the present and future of modern art. This exhibition will open the attic of the museum for the first time. The attic space will offer a special experience as a place where you can feel the time and traces that have passed by the museum. The <Modern Rose> exhibition will give the audience a valuable experience to meet only at the Namseoul Museum of Art, a contemporary art exhibition space that blends the past and the present. viewing point - Based on the time and space background of the former Belgium Consulate, the architecture of the Museum of Southwest Wool Art, we want to approach the characteristics of records, memories, and social consciousness in various interpretations of contemporary art. - The first gallery attic is open only during a limited tour, and 투어Noteljia> by Lim Heung-soon will be shown once a day (16 p.m.) in the attic.
