Exhibition Information
The CR Collective Cial Collective will hold a personal exhibition of Ji won-Kim and Open Position from Feb. 11 to March 28, which was selected for the 2019 CR New Writers Contest for the first time in 2020. In the exhibition, Ji-won Kim will present the results of a series of photos, videos, archives, installation works and new works. Ji-won Kim calmly reveals her lack of futility as an up-and-coming writer on the high barriers, a reality that cannot be changed while critically looking at the uncomfortable truths of the art world system, class and authority. The series of photographs began with an attempt by the author to enter the European art giant as an unknown artist. At first glance, these photographs look like out-of-date lyrical photographs. But here, the ambience behind the picture of an act of unauthorized conduct in an art gallery, and the ambivalent feelings of fear and joy about it, are revealed from the eyes of Sniki camera snaky camera. Over the past seven years, the author visited some of Europe's leading art institutions (about 150 places) and photographed them leaving their hair on site in an exhibition space. The author casts a critical eye on the reality that this intensity is expressed as a virtue that the up-and-coming writer needs the most. Ironically, the revealing results are lyrical, polite and peaceful. This shows the artist’s yearning art gallery, a fierce, vain, passive and persistent gesture toward the art competition it creates. A text archive <One of the most-> is an idea from a series of photos above. The introduction of the museum, which can be read on the website of various art museums, offers typical, conservative, and top-oriented rhetorical phrases. The author brings together a collection of writings that each museum promotes itself as the best museum in Europe or in the world. As a result, the discrepancy between the wordings, or the cliches from the uniformity of expression caused by the inability of a new investigation, turns out to be a funny and sad reality. <We never can say what is in U.S.> is a work that shows the author breaking the fortune cookie created by rearranging, recombining, and reassembling the passages from James Joyce’s novel, "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man." Through these performances, the author constantly asks questions and answers about the artist’s bleak future, like the story of Joyce’s novel. It will also conduct and announce a project that combines new works and performances prepared for the individual exhibition. It will be carried out as a black project to twist the exhibition’s title "Open Position" to reveal the problem of job classification in the art world. As such, Kim aims to reveal the system criticality of the Open Position, which consists of different perspectives among art and artists, art institutions and audience members.
