Park Jin-young, Superman-Dancing
2018 Oil on canvas 140x244cm
According to the North Jeolla Provincial Museum of Art (Kim Eun-young), the Seoul Museum of Art will hold an exhibition titled "Jeonbuk Youth 2020," an exhibition of works by Park Jin-young and Hwang Yu-jin among three young North Jeolla artists who will mark the sixth exhibition of the year as the first planning exhibition of 2020 from July 9 to 27.
Twenty-four artists from Jeonbuk Youth 2020 were selected through the first and second rounds of screening, and among them, paintings by Park Jin-young and sculpture artist Hwang Yoo-jin will be displayed.
Western painter Park Jin-young portrays a modern man living a hard life as a hero with a special power to overcome hardships.
We, who are enduring reality, express ourselves as we live a normal life, not as special as we are already supermen, who have exceeded ideals and values.
Sculptor Hwang Yu-jin uses a metaphor to tell an indescribable story and sends it to a silent beast.
The elephant sculpture, made of concentrated wood, uses a knot that is likened to solid flesh or emotion in the chest to express our inner self that becomes hard when we stand up from the wound.
Kim Eun-young, director of the North Jeolla Provincial Museum of Art, said, "We will make efforts to provide the artists selected for ‘Jeonbuk Youth 2020’ with various support to strengthen their capabilities both at home and abroad."
