Exhibition Information

From Feb. 6 to March 21, Changchutu will hold a private exhibition of Shin Yong Jae (B.1985) and daily songa (Daily Ode) at the exhibition space in Yeonnam-dong. This is where the writer, who has regarded the ever-changing space surrounding the index as an external indicator of the writer’s own emotional line, presents the results of his work through the chapter-to-residence period.

The object "sky" has been commonly regarded as an unholy expression in many cultures. It was partly due to the fact that the physical constraints made it impossible to reach, so it was simply a space to look up from below, and that the mysterious area of the sun that separates the light from the sun repeatedly appeared and disappeared, creating awe and corresponding fear.

Shin Yong-jae’s work is a series of recordings that capture and depict the external features of the ‘sky’ that are the upper part of the horizon and a natural object that cannot be intervened in. On objects that exist in favor of the human world, the author did not remain exclusive in the view of typification, but built up his daily routine, emotions, and attitudes at the base of the purely pictorial painting scheme of the sky scenery to form a non-visual stratagem that exists only in the author's thoughts.

Despite the danger of being corny and stereotypical in the sky as a reproduction, the author's small daily half-tenths of life linked to a particular space of time and space are given individuality rather than staying in the static landscape. The change in the changing diary may be a change in the writer's feelings of the day, or may be believed by the writer who saw the object through the act of painting to reflect his inner self on the day. Although the subject of this same period is not the writer but the independent entity on the horizon, the writer obtains the status as the subject of the conversation through the subjective interpretation and expression of the overall status of the target sky, the selection of certain parts of the kitchen, and the generation of colors.

All over appears as the dominant technique throughout the author's work. It is well known that the beginning of this technique originated from the impressionists who preferred outdoor work, because they needed to express in a dramatic manner what changes in the weather and sunlight caused without focusing on a particular object and the subtle air surrounding it. The freedom from the description and emphasis of a particular target on screen trends allowed the entire screen to be colored and handled in equal proportions, where the author goes one step further and multiplies the technical properties of flatness by linking the works of the same size to one another. This action is noteworthy in that each of the skylights described were set as a unit and paralleled, creating a visual atmosphere that seems to "collect" a day that is repeated over the same length of time for the author.

Shin Yong-jae, a second-term artist of Chapter2 Residence, held individual exhibitions at Gallery Art Flora and Cheongju Art Creation Studio. Major group exhibitions include Culture Station Seoul 284, Ansan Culture and Arts Hall, Gallery Ian, Chapter Two and Seongnam Cube Museum.
