  • From July 2 to August 25, 2020, the Soul Art Space's 2nd and 3rd Exhibition Hall will hold <Reflection> as a recent work by Choi Young-wook. Around 15 works will be on display, with over 100 masterpieces at the center.

Korea is country with many internal conflicts due to its location at the point of contact between the West and Asia and the divided political situation. Out ancestors, who have lived in the struggled of the strong world, have longed for a simple and peaceful life like moon jar. Writer Choi Young-wook also said, "I wanted to draw a piece that was comfortable and comforting just by looking at it, as if it were not with the sense of beauty given by the moon jar rather than a work that agonizes over its social role and contains a strong message."

Choi Young-wook ran an art academy for college entrance exams, which produced a number of successful art students, but decided to grab a brush as a full-time artist and left for the U.S with 150 canvases. he accidentally fell in love with the moon jar displayed at the Korean Museum of Art in New York. Even with small grooves on the surface, modified colors, and atypical forms, its existence attracted itself strongly. As the author said, "The warm, simple yet elegant, seemed to be hiding his inner workings.", the white porcelain of Korea, which proudly showed up at the foreign art museum, was calmly showing a calm light to the world. The moon jar is another name for the Great White Porcelain made in the late Joseon Dynasty. The irregular curve of the upper and lower parts separately captivated the hearts of many connoisseurs and lovers. The simple yet confident character resembles the philosophy of life that Choi Yong-wook himself pursues.

Uncalculated coincidences such as the white color he liked since college and the meeting with Bill Gates, who grew up looking at a small moon jar he bought in Insa-dong with his wife, are still enriching Choi Young-wook's work Karma. This exhibition will give you time to propose life comfort, reflection, reconciliation and meditation.
